PERCEPTION

In the next portion of “secrets” – perception, visual perception, sensory perception, sound perception, a sense of speed and a sense of grip.

Perception.

So, let’s analyze the most important position, formulating it like this: “the more information the human brain receives and the higher its quality, the higher the coefficient of return, the higher the class of the rider”.

I will give a simple example from the business sphere: the more information about an upcoming project an investment firm collects, the more reliable its investments will be. Who can argue with this statement? A similar pattern is typical for the racing process. The more information a racer receives, the higher his return, the faster he can drive a car. Literally everything is important: the accuracy of the trajectory in the turn, the position of rivals, how much the tire grip potential is used, the exact speed of the vehicle, the force of lateral accelerations, vibration, the sound of the engine and tires.

VISUAL PERCEPTION

Do you see the same thing that other people see? And another driver sees on the track the same thing as you? The fact is that everyone sees in his own way. One more, the other less, although visual acuity may be the same. An experienced rider sees even more! The fact is that the picture seen by the eyes is formed by the human brain. This means that much of what they see may simply not be perceived by the brain, and these elements of reality are simply missing in the picture. This explains the failure of some riders on the track.

They are unable to perceive all the most important information in detail. Scientists know that the amount of information that the human eye is capable of receiving is limited. But they are well aware that the possibilities of the human brain to process this visual information are almost limitless. And this is the field where you have to improve.

The more information in the race will be on your picture, the more accurate and faster you will drive the car!

SENSORY PERCEPTION

If you develop the sensitivity of the fingers, they will feel better things? Yes and no! The fact is that the picture of perception, as in the case of vision, forms the human brain. This means that the increased sensitivity of trained hands is the ability of the brain to create a more accurate, more detailed picture. Finger sensitivity can be developed. For training riders it is better to choose thick gloves, and to pass the qualification and to wear thin ones for the race. This will help improve the sensitivity of his fingers.

SOUND PERCEPTION

One rider was asked to hold a training session, using a particularly tight protection for the ears (earplugs). This caused certain difficulties, as he was used to hearing the engine, the sound of tires and other noises. But the human brain is designed so that it very quickly adapts to new conditions. After a very short time, the driver adapted to the low noise level and began to perceive them. In the next session, he left with the usual earplugs.

They reduce noise a little, but allow to clearly distinguish them. For example, tire noise. It changes in different phases of rotation, which means that their coefficient of adhesion to the coating also changes. This is very important information to help determine tire clutch margin. The driver began to show a very good lap time. This is what the level of auditory perception means.

Leaving at all without hearing protection is a big mistake! Strong noise level – this is an additional fatigue, brain overload.

Feeling of speed

The sense of speed is a very important factor at the cornering point, in its middle sector and at the exit. Of course, it is not the exact definition of speed by speedometer that is meant, but a completely different one. For the rider it is very important to feel the speed, that is, to be able to slow down to a certain speed, relying only on your own sense of speed.

It is very important to feel the speed in the range up to 2 km / h. The feeling of speed in the great riders is developed so strongly that they can copy from circle to circle with an accuracy of up to 1 km / hour at the entrance to every turn, middle sector and at the exit of their turn. This is the manifestation of true mastery.

CLUTCH FEELING

The feeling of grip on coated tires is a feeling that distinguishes an outstanding rider from all others. To drive the car in the optimal mode, but without going over it one iota in the sense of grip of tires with a coating, you must have a great sense of grip. It sounds pretty trite. But there is a huge sense. At any point of the track, you should feel the grip of each tire on the track and use them 100%, but not more! How to determine this maximum allowable limit? Complex issue!

I do not think that all the great racers are born with this feeling. Of course, there are exceptions, when this feeling is developed from nature a little more, but it can and should be developed, since you are seriously engaged in racing.
